Tip of the Week: How to Catch Potential Hacks

We’re all plenty aware that hackers are a serious threat to any modern business. But, if a hacker was lurking around on your network, would you be aware and would you have the correct resources to catch them? Even if you do, we wanted to share some strategies that might help you when it comes to highlighting warnings to catch threats. Here’s how to catch hackers before they do any harm.

Monitor Failed Password Attempts

Sometimes, you just can’t get your password right, and accidents happen. But, if you have gotten a notification that your system’s password was put in incorrectly too many times, it may be a sign that a hacker is attempting to get in. Always check with your employees to see if it was them (and assure them it is ok) and make sure it wasn’t an outside force. If it wasn’t for them, you will want to change all of their passwords so hackers can’t get into anything.

Keep an Eye on Your Traffic

While some hackers hide their locations to avoid suspicion, sometimes they don’t know how or just neglect to do so. This makes it really important to keep a close eye on your system to see if there’s any activity from an area you don’t recognize. Like if no one from your team lives in a different country, but suddenly there is a domain from there, there is an issue.

Actively Make Things More Challenging for Cybercriminals

You should always try to make it as difficult as possible for cybercriminals to get into your network, so after one attempt, they stop and target something else. This can be done with the customized configuration, password timeouts, two-factor authentication, access control, and other protections. These can keep your business safe and add layers of security.
