Learning how to use a new interface can be complicated and feel overwhelming. If you have been an Apple customer for many years and are worried about switching to an Android device, you should know that the difference between the two interfaces can be challenging. Here are a few of the things we think you should know before your switch from an iPhone to an Android.
Evaluating Your Application Needs
Before you switch phones, you should make a list of all of the applications that you use often for work or for your life that you don’t want to part with. Are these same applications available on Google Play Store or the Amazon App Store? If they aren’t, you may have some big troubles, or you may have to repurchase them on your new device.
This will also be a good opportunity to limit the applications you need to download and save space. If you have a ton of apps you’re not using, you won’t need to re-download them on your new phone, especially if they would need to be repurchased.
Deactivating iMessage
If you are switching phones, Apple has a page dedicated to allowing you to turn off iMessage so you can receive text messages while you are doing the switch. Once iMessage is turned off, you’ll be able to get iPhone messages without utilizing Wi-Fi.
Take a Backup on Google Drive
You can save a backup of all of the data on your phone onto your Google Drive. This can be done by downloading Google Drive and logging in, then going to Settings, and to the Backup section. You can back up everything by clicking Start Backup or you can pick and choose what you would like to include before it begins. This takes quite a while, up to several hours, so make sure your phone is plugged into power and you have the time for this step.
Once you are on your new Android device, you can sign into Google Drive and download your data. Most Androids also have apps that can assist you with the switch from an iPhone so utilize that as well. We hope these tips help you figure out how to switch from an iPhone to an Android.
