MyTek’s IT Flexibility Supports Adex Testing Through Transitions, Mergers and Growth
The American Board of Dental Examiners (ADEX) (https://
adextesting.org/) is the nation’s leading resource in developing,
innovating, and administering competency assessments for dental
health professionals. Over the past few years, the company has
gone through multiple mergers that resulted in offices in Maryland
and Arizona plus remote staff located throughout the country.
These changes had a significant impact on their IT needs. MyTek,
a longtime technology partner, was able to support ADEX in these
critical transitions through its flexible IT model.
ADEX engaged MyTek in 2018 prior to their mergers to review
their IT infrastructure and make recommendations, as needed.
MyTek worked with the company’s IT staff to implement those
recommendations. Once that work was completed, the engagement
ended. In 2022 after their first merger, a staff member responsible for
overseeing IT in the Arizona office abruptly left the company, leaving
the company in a challenging situation.
Recalling the positive experience ADEX had with MyTek in 2018,
Sally Clifford, Senior Director HR and Administration, felt confident
that MyTek could help support the company with interim resources.
Clifford relayed this information to Michael Zeder, Sr. Director of
Testing Operations and Technical Services. Because Zeder was
based in the ADEX’s Maryland office, he knew he needed someone
in Arizona to be able to quickly step in and help support IT needs in
the Arizona office. He needed boots on the ground.
ADEX decided to reach back out to MyTek for help, having worked
with them successfully before. MyTek was able to quickly step in to
keep IT in order and things running smoothly.
ADEX has multi-level technology needs that are core to their business like many modern
companies,” said Tim Tiller, MyTek CEO. “With their mergers they didn’t need an external
ongoing technology partner, but because of our ability to be flexible in helping them through
transitions, it illustrates how we can step in and help companies through change, growth,
and staffing issues.”
MyTek stepped in and was able to provide valuable support in the following ways:
– Get the IT infrastructure in a stable, solid place with everything properly documented.
– Gave the company time to step back and determine if they wanted to hire an external
resource for IT in Arizona or outsource it. MyTek was supporting IT in the short-term, so
there was no pressure to make a quick decision. The company was able to assess and act
strategically for its long-term goals.
– Allowed operations to continue to run smoothly with minimal interruptions in what could
have been a very disruptive situation.
During this time to add more challenges to the mix, ADEX also moved offices in Arizona.
“Having MyTek in Arizona able to be on-site was very helpful,” shared Zeder. “They
worked with us over a weekend to move the entire IT from one office to the new one with
everything setup for our employees at the start of the following week.”
In the end and after completing their merger, ADEX decided it did need to hire an internal
IT resource in Arizona yet recognized that MyTek’s support was invaluable in filling a critical
technology gap at a pivotal moment for the company. They also acknowledged the value of
having an external technology resource to rely upon when needed for IT assessments and
project work.
Tiller summarized that the relationship with ADEX is a great example of the benefits of
having a solid business relationship, calling it a “good breakup story.” He shared that MyTek
always starts with people and transparency first. We really focus on empowering our clients
with the keys to their IT infrastructure and are more about relationships than contracts.
“With ADEX it made sense for them to bring technology back internally once we helped
them get through their transitions, and we are all about supporting our clients in what is
truly best for their business,” shared Tiller.
“Everyone at MyTek has been very great to work with, and they had a really good sense of
what our needs are and never pushed us toward anything that didn’t make sense for our
business or its goals,” said Clifford. “We would not hesitate to recommend them to another
company.”
