Because so many businesses were forced to go remote or cease operation entirely, many businesses were introduced to modern collaboration tools that they didn’t previously know about. While collaboration tools are suddenly required for work, are they isolating your team members from each other? Today, we’re going to talk about workplace collaboration tips in spite of, and with the use of communication tools.
Asking the Workers How Collaboration Tools Have Impacted Them
A software developer Lucid conducted a survey with The Harris Poll to see how we collaborate, and how employees feel about it. 90% of those surveyed predicted a continuation of remote work and 87% have grown more comfortable using collaboration solutions. But beyond that, 57% of people have communication preferences that aren’t supported by the tools they are offered.
There are three primary ways that people tend to communicate in the workplace:
- “Expressive” workers prefer visual information tools like charts, graphs, and diagrams.
- “Relational” workers thrive through bonds with coworkers.
- “Introspective” workers embrace independence and like to ponder ideas on their own first.
With these three archetypes, it is easy to see how collaboration tools can be effective for some but not others.
